Hantsweb Awards 2004 TrophyOUR WEBSITE WINS TOP AWARD

The sound of celebrations abound among the Longparish web team down in Forton because www.longparish.org.uk was selected as Hampshire's top Town or Parish website in the Hantsweb Awards 2004 on Tuesday 9 November 2004.

Congratulations are rightly due as the Longparish website perfectly fulfils the criteria of local community involvement and an up-to-date, helpful service.

The Longparish Website TeamThrough the unstinting contributions of David Gould, webmaster, Fiona Gould website manager, and Jeremy Barber, Longparish Parish Council chairman in providing and inputting current information our website can be relied upon as a fount of all knowledge about village matters.   That is not to say Jeremy, Fiona and David are alone in their efforts, as they also rely on the many people who help to keep it informative by contributing to the site.

As our recent Parish Plan survey has revealed, the website was the village's third most favoured means of communication, after the printed version of Hill & Valley and bumping into friends in the Acre Stores.

The awards ceremony took place at INTECH Science and Discovery Centre, Winchester in the presence of Mrs Mary Fagan, Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire.

The Award was accepted on behalf of Longparish by Mary Jo Darrah, Longparish editor of Hill & Valley, Jeremy Barber, Fiona Gould, David Gould and Cheryl Dowler, who form the Longparish Communications Committee (picture alongside, with Master of Ceremonies Freddie Rostand, BBC TV South Today presenter).

While the website serves the village of Longparish, population approximately 700, it is also visited by friends, relatives and former residents who are now in a wider community – in places as far afield as the United States and Russia – but who keep in touch through the world wide web.

Longparish can be proud of its website which is easy to navigate and carries current community event information, parish council, church, school and local business contacts; village history and pictures; commentary on recent events; the Parish Plan questionnaire and results, and reprints the monthly parish magazine Hill & Valley, to name but a few sections.   Keep the stories flowing in…. .

You can view the Best Town or Parish Website Award when visiting Acre Stores, where it will be on display for a period.
