Longparish
Village Fete
July 13th 2002
On Thursday 15th November we held another meeting to discuss next year's fete. We have decided to start much earlier, in fact, noon. This will enable every body to take advantage of a BBQ, or if you prefer a picnic. It is hoped that this will be supported by a beer tent.
There will be the usual attractions. Another change will be having Test
Valley Brass to provide the music this year. We have also asked Dodgy
the Clown to come and entertain the children and it is hoped that he will
be able to circulate amongst the
picnickers. I am also negotiating for a Bouncy Castle for the younger
children. The cricket club is also making the new nets available for juniors
to try their hand at bowling and batting with a coach.
We still need helpers for extra stalls such as lucky dip, sweets in a
jar, weight of the cake, fishing for a duck, corks in a tub, crazy wire
or any thing else you can think of to add interest to the occasion. Please
do not wait to be asked, give me a call and I will be pleased to get you
set up, the more stalls and entertainment we have on the field the more
interesting the fete will be.
Looking forward to hearing from new helpers

The new Longparish Village Hall
A great deal of work and planning has been done to get the Community Project to the stage when, in early February, we hope to commission the architect to undertake the detailed work which is necessary to apply for planning permission. The playgroup and school are preparing their instructions and the Village Hall Committee wants to ensure that the views of all potential users are taken into account before finalising its brief.
All the comments made at the exhibition are on record and will be taken into account. If there are any other thoughts or ideas you have had, the committee would like to hear them. Members of the planning group would be very pleased to be invited to talk to any groups in the village, and hope to spend time in January talking and listening to your opinions. What would be most helpful is to say what would be required for the uses YOU would have for the hall. These then all have to be balanced and related to cost.
There will be a public meeting in March to explain the briefs to
the architect to those who are interested.
The planning team includes Stuart Bevan, Tim Sweet, Gloria Goodliffe,
Jeremy Barber, Sarah Rowlands and Mary Jo Darrah. Do get in touch
with any of them to find out more.

HOG THE LIMELIGHT Here at last is the long-awaited performance of Bill's New Frock, which had to be postponed because of illness last year. It is the hilarious story of what happens when Bill wakes up to find that he is a girl and faces one of the worst days of his life. Great fun for children and adults. Many hands did make light work
A very big thank you to all those who came along and worked so hard for our special pre-Advent cleaning party in St Nicholas church. Our regular "holy dusters" work so hard and faithfully, but having extra people that day meant we could do many extra jobs. Many thanks.
CLEARING UP
Thanks and congratulations to all those who have spent a lot of time clearing up the village in the last month. The cemetery and car park, the church, the school grounds and the stream have all benefited from many hours of work by volunteers and look much better for it.
