What a Contrast…and a Taste of Things to Come!

It was a wet and dreary winter's night outside the Village Hall on 11th January, but inside there could not have been a greater contrast. We were entertained by two excellent musicians, Simon Mayor and Hilary James who played six instruments and sang a range of songs, interspersed with samples of Simon's dry south Yorkshire wit. Their production was called Hoagy, Hornpipes, Handel and Hoedown. The highlight for me was Handel's 'Arrival of the Queen of Sheba' played on the mandolin by Simon, who is one of Britain's leading classical mandolin players. We sat café style at candle-lit tables with wine and nibbles and there was coffee and tea available as well. It was fantastic entertainment for adults and children alike and we were all sorry when the evening had to end.

Many thanks to Stuart Bevan and his team for organising the event. With Stuart leading the group planning the new community centre the scope for entertainment and activities will be even greater in the future. So with this as a taste of things to come, Stuart, thank you for such a good evening and for your efforts with the project for the new hall. You deserve the support of us all. Wendy Ellicock

St Nicholas Longparish Golden Jubilee Kneelers The Queen's Golden Jubilee year is being marked by a project to replace our rather dull and heavy kneelers with new ones worked in tapestry cross stitch. Kath Hewlett (tel. 720394) would welcome some more volunteers who would be willing to make up a kneeler. She has all the necessary materials, and would be pleased to hear from you. If you would like help the project in a different way, contributions to the cost of the materials would be very gratefully received. Each kneeler costs £25.00 but any amount is welcome.
