SCHOOL AND PLAYGROUP BUILDING PROJECT
We received some excellent news at the end of March: the schools bid for funding for the building project, referred to in the February Hill and Valley, has been successful! The project is to build two new classrooms to replace the existing temporary classrooms, some additional space for computers and teaching music, a new hall and a new building for the playgroup to replace the portacabin at a total cost of £1,750,000. The success of the bid means that 80% of the building costs will be met by a grant from central government funds. An additional 10% will be provided from the Diocesan School Buildings Fund. We will have to raise the remaining 10% (£175,000) ourselves. The objective is to begin building during the summer of 2004.
This is excellent news both for the school and for the whole community. It will ensure a secure future for both the school and the playgroup and also provide a range of possibilities as the buildings are designed for community use.
The success of the bid is certainly exciting news . Raising the remainder of the cost obviously represents a massive challenge - but more about that in future Hill and Valleys. Many thanks to those on the governing body who helped with the submission and of course to all those who had their fingers crossed on our behalf.
