Longparish Fête

Longparish Fete will be held this year on

12th July at 12 noon

on the cricket field ,

by kind permission of Longparish Cricket Club .

There is no official Fête Chairman this year but a group of people from St Nicholas and the Village Hall Committee has begun the organising.   The money raised by the Fête is shared between the Church and the Village

Hall and is a significant source of income for both. However, the most important thing about the fête is that everyone joins in and has a great day.

As ever, all offers of help are gratefully received and if you've a brilliant idea for a new stall or event we'd be delighted to hear from you.

We shall have all the traditional favourites too of course: BBQ, bouncy castle, clown, brass band, ice creams and beer tent!

LONGPARISH CRICKET CLUB

Good news for the 2003 season is that Barker Son & Isherwood, Solicitors, have agreed to sponsor the Club and at a recent net practice presented new shirts to the team.   Their help has attracted a matching grant for equipment from Test Valley Borough Council Leisure Services.

A particular focus for the new season is to encourage young players in the village.   A coaching programme has been organised by Lynn Pennefather-Neal, Jon Hibberd and John Young, during the early spring at Testbourne School and since the end of March at the ground on Tuesday evenings from 6.30 to 8pm.   New members are always welcome.   It is hoped to arrange some fixtures for a colts team this year, as well as the Hampshire Cricket League Regional Division 1 (North) matches on Saturdays and the Zanco Ceramics League Division 2 on Tuesday evenings.   The captain for the Saturday team is Paul Blackmore and for the Tuesday team Paul White.   Steve Benco will captain the friendly matches, which are usually played on Sundays.   On Sunday, 22 nd June, Barker Son & Isherwood are hosting the BSI   Village Knockout Competition   at Longparish, which should attract record crowds.

The final result for the Winchester and District Indoor League Division 4 was that Longparish was joint 6 th , not quite as good as last year.   In our last game we were beaten by Compton and Chandlers Ford, who were the runners up in the final of the Indoor Knockout.

A group of keen and energetic workers turned up at the ground for the annual spring clean on 12 th April. Many thanks to all who helped.
