LONGPARISH FETE 2003

Saturday 12 th July

12 noon – 4pm on the cricket field

This year’s fete will be opened by the BBC’s award winning Sports Presenter, Roger Johnson.

You’ll see him every week night on South Today at 6.30 on BBC1. H e has also presented Children In Need for the  last three years in the south and often works on other outside broadcasts (eg Music Live).    Roger started in the local radio newsroom in Southampton and then moved to BBC Local Radio in Manchester where he became the Manchester United Correspondent.   "I followed them all around Europe for a couple of years before coming back to Southampton to work on South Today. Everyone told me it would be the end of my career if I came back - because it's such a nice part of the world and no-one wants to move. That was in 1997.. and I'm still here “

Roger likes to keep up sport outside of work; "There's not much time for hobbies in this job: if you can call watching sport and reporting on it a job! I am a keen sportsman (predictably enough!) - I play cricket and football locally. I am also keen on eating out and am brushing-up my DIY skills in preparation for an impending house move."

There’ll be some new events and some old favourites at the fete this year.

There’ll be lots of activities for children including a clown, bouncy castle, races, face painting, luck dips and other games. You can have a go in the cricket nets, at the coconut shy or spot the ball.

Skateboard fans will have fun with the World’s Biggest Skateboard which will be visiting the fete.

And pets can win prizes in our fun Dog Show . Is your dog the cutest in the village? Or the most obedient?   Bring your pet to the show and find out.

If you’d like to meet some really obedient dogs watch Howard Kirby of Laine’s Gundogs who will give a Working Dog Display .

The Test Valley Concert Band and the children of Longparish School will entertain us with music and dance.

The stalls offer the chance to buy homemade cakes and produce as well as plants for the garden, books and gifts for all. And don’t forget the chance to win big prizes at the Bottle Stall and in the Grand Draw .

There will be a BBQ from 12 noon, teas, soft drinks, ice cream and a beer tent.

Entry is just £1 (children under 14 are free and one Longparish resident can use the voucher on the slip that’s with each copy of this magazine). There is plenty of parking at the field and you can bring your dog (if you promise to poop scoop!).

The money raised by the fete is shared between the Church and the Village Hall and we hope everyone will come.                                                                                                             Cathy Yelf   Longparish 720790
