Here are some of the things discussed at the June meeting. Thank you to all the members of the public who came along and expressed their views.
Members of the footpaths committee have installed a kissing gate at the Newton. Three members are to take strimmer training so they can help keep footpaths in order. Thanks go to a fourth, Ricky Bourne, who is the trainer;
The fire safety talk was well attended and gave lots of tips to minimise fire risk. Above all install smoke alarms and make sure they are working. There are leaflets in the shop. A full report will go on our website and a booklet with tips about avoiding thatch fires will be distributed to all thatched houses.
The council objected to two planning proposals
Bunding at Owls Lodge because the noise from the Olympic discipline had not proved intrusive and the temporary permission for the sporting discipline has only 18 months to run so there was no current need for further permanent bunds.
Extension of the working hours at the Integra waste transfer station on Harewood Forest Industrial Estate to include Bank Holidays because of the inconvenience to neighbours.
No objection was raised to plans for
A garage at 90 North Acre
An extension at 1 Woodwalk Cottages
The Village Plan group is back in action. As recommended by the group, the council decided to put notice boards in the bus shelters for all to use and to sponsor a welcome party for new villagers.
This year's village directory has been distributed to all households. Thanks go to Mary Jo Darrah for compiling it.
Badminton at the Village Hall is proving popular. The council gave a grant of £125 to the Village Hall towards the cost of guttering repairs.
The litter at the playground is much reduced. Thanks go to everyone who picks it up and to everyone who doesn't drop it. The Open Spaces committee will decide shortly on an extra piece of equipment for smaller children.
The next meeting is at 7.30pm on Monday 14 July in the Village Hall committee room. Our meetings are public and all parishioners are welcome to come and can speak. The agenda will be on the notice boards at the shop and in Forton a few days before the meeting. Jeremy Barber Chairman t el 720459

Longparish Playgroup
The children of Longparish Playgroup, aided by their parents and siblings recently took part in a sponsored walk raising nearly £600 pounds for their new Playgroup building.
The children took part in a long walk through the paths around Longparish and finished with tea and hot cross buns for the adults at the village hall, and an Easter egg hunt for all the children in the garden of Orchard House.
The Playgroup Committee would like to say a big thank you to the children and their sponsors for raising so much money.
