SPRING CLEAN UP OF VILLAGE STREAM AND PLAYGROUND
SATURDAY 24TH APRIL 2004
10.00 A.M. TO 1 P.M.
VOLUNTEERS WANTED to help with the village spring clean. This year, as well as clearing weed and debris out of the steam adjacent to the main road through Longparish, we are hoping to do some work in the children's playground.
We have been given a roll of green coated chain link fencing which will be put along the wooden fence by the road in the children's playground to make it more secure for younger children.
There are brambles that need cutting back in the field opposite the
stream - to make it easier to walk along the road - and brambles
are again growing into the children's playground from the adjoining
cricket field.
Voles have been spotted in the stream so we will only be working from
the road side bank and will leave 15 cms of vegetation on the far side
as the voles use the vegetation as food and also need ground cover
to protect them from predators. The estate have opened up the woods
beyond the stream and have planted new trees so our job will be easier
this year as they are less over-hanging branches to be removed.
Ricky Bourne - our main litter pick organiser - is unfortunately unavailable to help but he assures me his fellow volunteers have all been issued with litter pickers, fluorescent jackets and safety instructions. If anyone would like to do a litter pick on clean up day please let me know.
As debris - particularly weeds - need to be removed anyone who can bring along a wheelie bin will be much appreciated. If you are able to help please could you come along and bring your own equipment such as rakes, pruning saws, secateurs or equipment to help with the fence in the playground. We will meet in the children's playground and will be working from 10.00 a.m. to 1 p.m.
FREE LIGHT LUNCH OF SANDWICHES AND CHIPS AT THE PLOUGH FOR ALL VOLUNTEERS!
CHILDREN ALSO WELCOME TO HELP UNDER PARENTAL SUPERVISION.
Please phone Jenny Jolliffe on 720207 if you have any queries.
