Longparish Cricket Club

In the Club's busy programme so far this season, the “red letter fixture” must surely have been the appearance of Longparish cricketers at the Rose Bowl, Southampton on Sunday, 6th June.   Watched by proud parents and Club members, 11 boys and girls from the Colts section under 11 age group took part in games of Kwik Cricket on the outfield before the Totesport match between Hampshire and Warwickshire.   And what star performances were put in by each and everyone of the children as they batted, bowled and fielded with such enthusiasm and sportsmanship!   The main match for our players was against Town Hill, and this first competitive game by our youngsters ended as a win for them.   The Colts then met members of the Hampshire team for a photo-call, and were invited to watch the afternoon's game.

This was indeed a rewarding day for John Young,(the Club's coach) and his team of helpers, and augurs well for the future of cricket in Longparish.

A SUPERB WEEKEND AT LONGPARISH'S GARDENS FESTIVAL

The 14 gardens at Longparish that opened over the weekend of 19 and 20 June proved a great draw, with over 800 visitors exploring the lovely gardens, and raising a huge amount of over £7,000 for the Longparish School and Community Project.   Total funds collected to date for the Project are £93,000!

As well as beautiful gardens and views of the River Test, visitors enjoyed home made lunches, cakes and cream teas, put their questions to the garden owners and purchased plants and garden sundries.   They also watched craftsmen working, and demonstrations of gardening techniques.   Children were set challenges in a special quiz designed for them, searching for objects in the gardens from clues and a great time was had by all.

The Garden Festival proved a wonderful occasion to draw the whole village together, with 10% of people across the whole community helping to make it such a resounding success.   Additional photographs of the open gardens can be viewed on the website
