pumpkin

This year there will be prizes for the decorated pumpkins, prettiest pumpkin and the most unusual pumpkin as well as the usual prizes for size for all ages.   Last year's winners included one of over 200lbs and one of under two pounds so don't worry if yours is not huge.

We are starting at 4pm to make it easier for parents to bring children and hot dogs and light refreshments will be available to keep hungry people going while the judges do their stuff.   All entries are free but please support the raffle (in aid of playgroup) and bring a raffle prize if you can.

For more info see the pumpkin area of the village website.

Longparish Parish Council
Open Forum on Nuisance
Monday 13 September 7pm

The Parish Council has had a number of complaints recently about noise and anti-social behaviour which we will discuss at the next meeting on Monday 13 September.   Before the formal business starts there will be an open forum at 7pm in the village hall to give parishioners an opportunity to air their concerns.   We have invited our Borough Councillor, Jim Neal and experts from bodies such as the Borough Council and the Police so they can join the discussion and advise parishioners and the council how best to go about dealing with the matters raised.

Please come along if there's anything you'd like to discuss.

Longparish Cricket Club

Sponsored by Barker, Son & Isherwood Solicitors

All too soon, we are coming to the end of the 2004 fixtures, with only two weeks left in our Hampshire Cricket League programme.   Wet weather conditions during the summer have caused cancellation of fixtures for both teams (seven in all) and some weeks they have played in less than ideal cricketing conditions!

In their first season in County Division 4, the First XI have performed well and, as I write, are just above the middle of the table, eighth out of 18.   The high spot was undoubtedly when the team travelled to Sulhampstead last month and, with an understrength team, inflicted their first and so far only defeat on the Division leaders this season.   The emergence of a ‘Parish Second XI in 2004 is very exciting for us all, and it is rewarding to see several Colts playing regular League cricket for the first time.   Following two excellent wins recently (over Andover V and OTs & Romsey IV) they have now moved off the bottom of the table, and are also lying eighth out of 10 in Division 4 North West.   The obvious enthusiasm and team spirit among the players has been harnessed by their captain, Steve Benco   who has devoted a considerable amount of time to organising and leading his “boys” this summer.

The ‘Parish team in the Winchester and District Cricket Clubs' Association Evening League (our version of the Twenty20 game but Eighteen18) has also been rain affected.   We finished in joint third position in Division Two with 14 points, having had six wins, three losses and 2 cancelled games.
