Longparish Cricket Club

Have you ever aspired to stand as an Umpire for a Test Match?   Well, you have to start somewhere so LCC will welcome you with open arms.

We are looking for umpires for League matches on Saturdays and Tuesday evenings and for friendly games.

We are also looking to train scorers so if you have an interest in acting as a scorer, particularly for friendly matches, we would like to hear from you.

Formal qualifications for both positions can be achieved through LCC funding.

If you would like to volunteer, or find out more about what is involved, please contact the Club's Secretary, Kate Hibberd, on 01264 351968.

NEWS FROM TESTBOURNE

TSUNAMI APPEAL

Pupils responded with great compassion and generosity to the plight of people affected by the Tsunami tragedy.   Prefects rattled collection buckets at break and lunchtime during our first week back and, at the pupils' own request, we continued collections during the second week of term.   They raised just over £600, which we have now paid to the Disasters' Emergency Committee.

GCSE RESULTS

Results tables for the 2004 GCSE exams have been published recently and you may have seen these in the local press.   We were pleased with these as we had hit all the targets we set.   The school also receives a document called a “PANDA” which provides very detailed performance and assessment data, and grades our performance compared with other schools on a scale of A* - E.   We are pleased to be able to report that we have been given A grades for our percentage of 5 A* - C grades and for the value added to pupils' progress from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 4.

ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY

Do you get as fed up as I do with the environmental blight caused by litter and chewing gum in our community?   As part of our efforts to combat this we have recently introduced a “community service after school detention” for any pupils caught dropping litter or chewing gum, which is banned in school.   Pupils assist the cleaning team for one hour after school.   It is helping focus their young minds on being responsible for the environment and helping keep the school clean.   Mutual benefit all round.

JETS MEET THE SHARKS

Rehearsals are now well under way for our forthcoming production of West Side Story.   Performances will be on the 16 th – 19 th March and tickets will go on sale from the school office after half term.   This promises to be another in a long line of successful Testbourne musicals and we look forward to seeing you there.
