The April meeting was well attended with a full agenda. Minutes of meetings are on the village website www.longparish.org.uk .
The council was sorry to hear that Mrs Jenny Jolliffe will be unable to continue as a member because of changes in her work commitments. Jenny has made a big contribution over many years and the council formally recorded its appreciation of her work. As Jenny is leaving there is a vacancy on the council. If you are interested in joining please contact the chairman.
The council did not object to
Retention of the temporary classrooms at the school
Retention of ancillary accommodation at Carpenters Cottage Forton
The council objected to a front wall at Owl's Lodge on the grounds of loss of visual amenity.
A tree application for East Aston House was referred to the tree warden to investigate whether the tree concerned was rare and worthy of preservation.
Parishioners raised issues about parking and congestion in parts of North Acre. The behaviour of some children was also a concern. Both matters will be referred to the appropriate authorities.
A letter about a small diversion of footpath 12 to the rear of Yew Tree House was discussed at length. On balance the council felt that it was preferable for the proposed new route to be tested as a permissive path before any application was made to divert the path formally.
The council approved use of the football field by the school while the school field is out of action. Would dog walkers please ensure that dogs are kept under close control when the field is in use and that they are not allowed to foul the field.
Three green wheelie bins have disappeared. Our borough councillor, Jim Neal will raise the matter with TVBC
The council reviewed a draft of the Parish Plan and made some suggestions. The proposal for a footpath from the village hall car park to the school was discussed at length. The council supported the idea. The footpath might increase the chance of damage to the fence on the other side of the road this was outweighed by the improvement to safety of children.
There will be a further round of consultation on the draft plan and the final version will be presented to the Annual Parish Meeting on Monday 16 May.
The next Council meeting is on Monday 9 May at 7.30 in the Village Hall committee room. Meetings are public and all parishioners are welcome to come and can speak.
