The Hampshire Art Fair 2005

Contemporary Art at affordable prices

Sarah de Watteville, Sarah O'Rorke and Nadia Waterfield, three young mothers who are passionate about promoting original creative art and who all live in Longparish, are organising   a major new art fair in November.   It will be held in a large converted barn in Stoke Charity and more than 200 paintings will be for sale at prices from £100 to a maximum of £2,000.

“There are some fantastic artists, over 30 from all over the country, and we will get a lot of enjoyment out of exhibiting their work.   As the prices will be affordable we hope to attract a lot of buyers who love the idea of having an original painting in their home,” Sarah O'Rorke commented.

pumpkin

This year there will be prizes for decorated pumpkins, the prettiest pumpkin and the most unusual pumpkin as well as the usual prizes for size for all ages.   Last year's winners included one of over 200lbs and one of under two ounces so don't worry if yours is not huge.

We are starting at 4 to make it easier for parents to bring children.   Hot dogs and light refreshments will be available to keep hungry people going while the judges do their stuff.   All entries are free but please support the raffle (in aid of playgroup) and bring a raffle prize if you can.

For more info see the pumpkin area of the village website.                            Jeremy Barber

Longparish Ladies' Cricket Match

The Cricketers Inn Longparish ladies challenged the rest of the village ladies to a game of cricket for a charity event to raise money for the Longparish Cricket Club, which needs a new tractor and roller for the ground as theirs is 50 years old (nearly as old as me).   The match was arranged for Sunday 4th September and the teams were led by Elaine Mancini (Cricketers) and Wendy Ellicock (village).

We raised money by everyone getting sponsors for the day and by selling tea and cakes (all prepared by local villagers).   There was a very good turn out for the day and so far we have raised a total of   over £1000.

The Cricketers team was made up of regular customers and staff and the opposing team was the fair maidens from the village.   We had 25 overs per innings with The Cricketers Inn batting first. They made 138 with the opening ladies hitting 60 runs between them with several players not out.   The rest of the village hit up 104 with Carol Dunford scoring 52 runs not out.   There was some great cricket played, taken in the best of fun.   My woman of the match for the Cricketers was Sally Tomlinson and for the village was Carol Dunford

If any other villages would like to challenge us for charity or just fun we will be only too happy to play.

We used the youth training ball (which does not hurt so much) and many bowlers bowled underarm.

The Cricketers Ladies remain unbeaten for three years - so bring it on.

Thanks to all who took part, thanks to Wendy for accepting the challenge and thanks to all for raising such a great total. I would like to say a special thank you to Jan West and Lynn Neil for making and selling teas and cakes, to Matt and Adam for refereeing and to Ray Smith for his help and coaching on the day on the day, to Guy for taking some great action photos, and, most of all, to the villagers who turned out to support the Day.                             Elaine Mancini
