VILLAGE SPRING CLEAN

Mark your diaries for Saturday, 22nd of April, when we will give Longparish a general tidy up. Because water levels are so low this year, we won't be doing the usual stream clean, but we will be tackling some of the other areas. More details in next month's Hill & Valley.

Anyone wishing to recommend a problem area to be sorted, please contact Catherine Sweet on 01264 720550.

Obituary

Pat Kingston

5th December 1937 - 9th February 2006

Her friends and neighbours were saddened that Pat has died, albeit after years of ill-health, and our sympathy is with her family, Charlie, her husband, John, Sarah and Tim, their sons and daughter; and their grandsons, Aaron and Elliot.

Pat was born in Essex and brought up in Children’s Homes, finally in King’s Worthy, Winchester. From there she was fostered by Mr & Mrs Witt at Larkwhistle Farm from 1953. She worked at Portals Mill, Overton. Longparish Youth Group, meeting in the Village Hall, brought Pat and Charlie together, and they were married in St Nicholas’ Church in 1958.

Charlie and Pat moved to Andover, then back to Forton, away to North Litchfield, before settling in North Acre in 1968. Pat’s life centred around her family, as mother and wife. She had known many years of frail health, before suffering her recent strokes.

Longparish Cricket Club

Sponsored by Barker, Son & Isherwood

It is good to see how quickly the evenings are drawing out as we go towards the middle of February and, while outdoor training and coaching are still some way off, the next few weeks will give Club members a chance to improve their fitness at indoor nets. Both senior and colt members can attend weekly sessions in Andover: the seniors on Thursdays between 8 and 9 pm at John Hanson School, and the colts between 6.15 and 7 pm at Winton School. So far, these sessions appear popular with good attendances.

In the knock-out competition of the Winchester & District Cricket Clubs’ Association Indoor League two of our teams have been knocked out, leaving Longparish I carrying the flag for the Club. They play their second round match on 19th February and are hoping for a successful evening.

Winners in the January 100 Club Draw were
1st £35 no.270 Malcolm Spence-Herbert
2nd £15 no.126 Keith Guppy
3rd £15 no.85 Dennis Luff Kate Hibberd
