Longparish School

May Fayre

Saturday 20th May

12 noon to 3pm

at Longparish School

Entry 50p, children free

There will be all the usual stalls and attractions plus BBQ, teas & cakes, grand raffle with £150 cash first prize, and dancing displays from the children.

We are looking for donations of ‘good as new’ books, toys, bric-a-brac (sorry, no electrical items or clothes), china etc. which can be dropped off at the village hall between 3 and 3.30pm every day from Monday 15th May. Also cakes, which may be left at the school on Friday 19th or delivered on the day.

As usual we will be round during the week prior to the Fayre collecting bottles for the tombola and selling raffle tickets. We are very grateful to the villagers of Longparish and Hurstbourne Priors for supporting us this way.

For collection of items or if you would like to help at the Fayre please contact

May Fayre Plant Stall

If you have a surplus of bedding or can split herbaceous plants please give some for the May Fayre plant stall. Other garden stuff will also be very welcome. Thanks very much.

Pumpkins

There will be lots of pumpkins as well as courgettes and cucumbers on sale at the May Fayre. So please leave a space when you are planting the garden and grow something huge or unusual for the Tenth Great Longparish Pumpkin Competition in October. Many of them are very good eating as well. There is a feature showing what they look like on the village website.

Longparish Cricket Club

Sponsored by Barker, Son & Isherwood

A pre-season get-together for players and supporters of the Club was held at The Cricketers at the beginning of April when over 80 people took part in a quiz compiled for us by Richard Williams. The evening was a huge success and many thanks are due to Richard and to Ray Smith who organised the event.

On 28th March, in a close fought game against Cove, the Indoor U15 team achieved a second consecutive win. Despite some indifferent bowling, a strong fielding display restricted Cove to 90 all out and a composed run chase, led by Mitchell Greenham 27* and Stuart Tognareli 25*, saw Longparish home with 4 balls to spare. The following week, in a very close game with Andover B, the ‘Parish reply was just 6 runs short of Andover’s score of 108, although an outstanding innings of 79* by Stuart ensured that the result was in doubt until the final ball.

As always, for anything to run successfully help is needed, and with two junior teams playing in the Summer league (the U15 on Friday evenings and the U11 on Sunday mornings), plus junior nets on Monday evenings, we would be grateful; for assistance with coaching, running practice groups, umpiring and scoring. Anyone who would like to volunteer, please contact John Young (01264 720233) or Justin Jackman(01962 760302) – they will be delighted to hear from you.

Our first home fixture, weather permitting, will be a 2nd XI game on Saturday 6th May. During the summer there will be a home Hampshire League match each Saturday, and you will be sure of a warm welcome if you would like to come along to watch.
