L2SOTM - The Longparish Second Sunday Of The Month handicap running race

Jack Ellicock, who, at 86, is an example to us all, set off first of 19 runners who enjoyed an excellent race on 8 October. The results, more information about the race and the entry form are in the L2SOTM area in the Longparish Community Association events pages on the village website. Everyone is welcome to the next race on Sunday 12 November. It will start at earlier than usual at 9am because of the Remembrance Day silence at 11am. Jack has kindly offered a bottle shaped prize for the person who improves most.

Jeremy Barber

London Philharmonic Skiffle Orchestra

Forget superstition, Friday 13th October was a lucky day for Longparish. The LPSO entertained over fifty residents with a skilful and amusing musical evening. The four artists played an array of conventional instruments, along with a few more unusual ones: bagpipes, duck, chicken, sheep and watering can. Audience participation highlighted a budding musician, Andrea, who showed her impeccable rhythm on the wash board. The enjoyment of the evening was topped by a delicious supper. The tickets for this event were only £10 for Community Association members.

If you enjoyed the evening organised by the Longparish Community Association you may want to put a date in your diary. On Saturday 24th March there is another musical evening, Reg Meuross, Miranda Sykes and John “Rabbit “Bundrick are booked to play in our hall. Check out their sound on www.regmeuross.com.

SEPARATE LIES (12)

Directed by Julian Fellows (Oscar winner for Gosford Park)
Starring: Rupert Everett, Tom Wilkinson, Emily Watson, Linda Bassett.

Successful lawyer, James Manning, appears to have it all. But while he works long hours in London, his young and beautiful wife Anna becomes increasingly bored with life in their Buckinghamshire retreat. Meanwhile upper-class cad William Bule has just returned from America to his ancestral home up the road. So far, so predictable, but then a hit and run killing and subsequent police investigation force all the characters to re-examine their moral certainties with surprising results. First class performances and astute social observation.

Tickets (£5 or £4.50 for LCA members) in advance from the shop or on the door. Cash bar.

LCA walks for November.

Please join us to explore the lovely footpaths around Longparish. Walks at a gentle pace start at Longmead House, & are followed by tea and cake! Dogs are welcome

A REGULAR NIGHT OUT FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

Fortnightly Wednesday Club Nights have become an accepted feature on the Longparish calendar for 11-18 year olds. Twenty members have signed up for Kidz Zone and, with occasional guests, an average of 18 young people attend Club nights. There are a wealth of games to play and people to meet –a great place for winter evenings.

Outing to Quasar / Bowling at Southampton

The Club is going on a supervised visit on Wednesday 15 November 2006 by minibus to Southampton’s Megabowl. This is a 10-Pin Bowling and Quasar evening, leaving the Village Hall at 5:00 p.m. and returning at 10:00 p.m. at a cost of £6 for entry to Megabowl. The cost of the minibus and will be subsidised by the Kidz Zone Club. While closing date for this trip was 18th October if anyone else is interested in coming along, it may be worth a call to check if any seats are available on the minibus. Call Andrea Hulme on 01264 720347 to get a Consent Form and pay the £6 fee.

Signed Membership Forms are required for everyone going on outings - if you have yet not returned your Membership Form you’ll need to bring it with you.

As Kidz Zone is going out on 15th November there will be no Club that night at the Village Hall. However, with three Club Nights in November Kidz Zone Club will meet at the Village Hall on two occasions - Wednesdays 1st and 29th November.
