Message from the borough councillor.

Firstly can I thank everyone who sponsored me on my recent fund raising walk. It was very kind of so many people to support me. I duly completed the 40 laps on Sunday 29th. October and I raised over £500 for my charities, although all the money is not in. It is due to generosity such as this that people less fortunate than ourselves will benefit from monies raised.

As I am Mayor this year I have not been able to attend as many Parish Council meetings as normal. However I am still available to help in any matters that are within my compass and can be contacted in the usual ways, either through the Parish Council, direct on 720429 or by email at jsn@jsnacc.f9.co.uk

I was pleased to help with the flooding in the church car park and to get it fixed for free through my contact with the owner of Purbeck. I am sure you will agree it is a big improvement.

Once again many thanks and please don’t hesitate to contact me if you think I can be of assistance.

Cllr Jim Neal

Harewood Ward

Mayor of Test Valley

Longparish Cricket Club

Sponsored by Barker, Son & Isherwood

More than 20 ‘Parish Players were joined by their guests at The Cricketers for the Annual Dinner and Presentation Evening on the 6th October. After a delicious meal, our Chairman, Martyn Clarke, gave an amusing and informative round up of the Club’s activities and then invited Clive Holland, of our sponsors BSI, to present the various awards.

The Young Player Cup was won by Stuart Tognarelli, a talented young wicketkeeper, who kept for the U15s, the Second XI and the First XI. The Fielding Award was presented to Chris Clarke, a safe pair of hands both close to the wicket and on the boundary, and the Mid-Week Cup went to Matt Paice for his bowling and fielding performances during the summer. The Second XI Bowling Cup was given for the second year running to Mike Wakefield, and the Batting Cup was won by Martin Bearpark, who finished the season with an average of 53. The Bowling Cup was presented to Ross Stewart, who took 34 wickets at an average of 11.33, and the Batting Cup to George Kousseff for his consistent performances as opening bat. In addition, George also won the Players’ Player Trophy – a well deserved double!

The Sprague Cup, for services to the Club, was presented to Justin Jackman for all the work and effort he put in to the successful entry of a Colt team in the indoor league at Dummer, and U11 and U15 teams in the Winchester league – a very popular choice.

Despite being the “closed” season, we have six teams of enthusiastic (and energetic!) players taking part in indoor leagues at the River Park Leisure Centre in Winchester and the Dummer Indoor School. Newly promoted Longparish I, in Division 1 of the Winchester League, have won three out of their first four matches, while Longparish 2 are lying mid-table in Division 3. Continuing the Club’s policy of trying to include colts in as many teams as possible, Longparish 3 is providing enjoyable, and winning, experience for several of the lads. At Dummer, while the U15s have yet to play, the U13s have made a good start, by beating teams from Overton and Hook. Also at Dummer, in the Ruddles County League Div.3, the Longparish Longhops, a mixed adult/colts team, have also had an excellent start, winning their first few games.

The December 100 Club Draw will be held at The Cricketers on Wednesday, 13th December at 8.30pm.
