Longparish Community Association

Longparish’s youth club for 11 – 18 year olds meets fortnightly on a Wednesday at 7:00 – 10:00 p.m. at the Village Hall. New members are welcome to join the regulars who have now been coming along for nearly six months.

A shoot-out at Southampton

On Wednesday 15 November 2006, the Club went on a visit to Southampton’s Megabowl. It was a full evening with Quasar and Ten-Pin Bowling on the agenda. The Quasar game, in the darkened zone, meant kitting up in ‘flak jackets’ which put everyone in the mood for the hectic shoot-out that followed. However, rumour has it that the girls stuck together - which made them quite an easy target! The 10-pin bowling was good fun, too, when Thomas Lewis was the winner, with two strikes to his credit. Maggie Barber kindly stepped into the breach by driving the minibus, for which Kidz Zone Club is very grateful, and a good evening away was had by all.

Another thank-you

Thanks from Kidz Zone also go to Longparish House this month for very kindly donating a cabinet for use by Kidz Zone, which saves carrying the Tuck Shop goodies to each Club night.

LCA is delighted to offer our first Christmas Quiz. We hope it is the first of many. You can get the questions for a fiver, either from committee members or by phoning 720459 or emailing LCA@longparish.org.uk. The deadline for entries is the end of January so you can agonise over the whole holiday and still have time to work on the last few answers. Eight Below (PG)   120 mins

Based on actual events), this is a terrific animal adventure story which will be enjoyed by all ages,. In the course of an expedition to the Antarctic searching for a meteorite, scientist Dr Davis McLaren breaks his leg.  Dog trainer Jerry Shepherd, himself suffering from frostbite, reluctantly abandons his team of eight dogs and accompanies McClaren to hospital for treatment. But the storm prevents anyone being able to fly back until the long Antarctic winter is over.  Can the dogs make it alone?

Directed with assurance and a light touch by Frank Marshall who, along with first time screenwriter David DiGilio, definitely knows how to work those heartstrings,

Please come & bring your children. We need you support if the village films are to continue. Tickets £5 (£4.50 for LCA members)

L2SOTM - The Longparish Second Sunday Of The Month handicap running race

John Scott won the prize for the most improved runner in an excellent November race. The handicaps worked well. Most people improved on their October performance and ten of the 15 runners finished within two minutes of each other. The results, more information about the race and the entry form are in the L2SOTM area in the Longparish Community Association events pages on the village website. Everyone is welcome to the next race on Sunday 10 December starting at 10am at the Cricket Ground. Jeremy Barber
