This is where we try to keep you up to date with news of what's happening and new stuff on the web site.
Preparations are well under way for the village fete which promises to be an excellent day out for all the family. As always, the organisers will welcome offers of help. Patrick Beresford is the organiser and if you’ve not already been signed up but are able to volunteer to run a stall, help with the setting up or knocking down or are willing to try any other task please give him a call on 01264 720421. New helpers are always needed and very, very welcome so please don’t feel you have to wait to be asked! There is a lot more information here
The contractors, Amey, advise that work on the new footway from the car park to the school and church is expected to start on Weds 20 August. Every effort will be made to have it finished before the start of the new term. It will involve a temporary closure of the road while the new kerb is installed, and then traffic lights until the work is completed. We understand that it will be possible to get through on foot or with a bicycle. Diversions will be signposted but there will inevitably be some inconvenience while the work is being done. Please allow extra time for your journeys.
If you have any query about access please contact the contractors, Amey, on 01962 810930.
New term starts Thursday 11 September, £5 per session. Classes are led by Carol Dunford, a fully qualified instructor. She teaches low impact short routines to music. This is kinder to your joints. It is not a fast pace class so is ideal for complete beginners and senior ladies. Each session includes gentle warm up, cardiovascular exercise to increase heart-rate (nothing major!!) and toning – concentrating on those problem areas (Arms, Bums, Tums).
Wear comfortable clothing and non-slip footwear. Everyone works at their own level, no pressure. Come along and give it a try. Free parking - so why travel to Andover for a class?
Need more information? Phone our instructor Carol on 720227.
Each month we join with friends and neighbours to enjoy a convivial chat and a welcoming cup of tea or coffee. Details of the Septemver event will be publsihed here. Everyone is welcome. If you need a lift give Gloria a ring on 720 425.
Ella Scott, Vi Meares and their helpers would like to thank all those who came to the July coffee morning and supported the Bring and Buy at Ella’s on one of the wettest days of the summer. They raised £90, which was a very welcome boost to Longparish Community Association’s funds
The Community Association has booked three events. Details are here. Please book the dates in your diary.
The Community Association has been up and running for 18 months. The first year's membership covered 2006 and 2007, to keep things simple. But the time has come for membership renewals. If you joined before September 2007 please fill in the form at the back of the events diary or print out this one and return it by mail or by hand to Christine Beresford. At only £1 per year the subscription is very good value. Please re-join.
Despite a bit of drizzle, the Midsummer Fun Day was an excellent village event. There is an excellent series of pictures including a short football movie, in the photo gallery. Thanks very much to the many people who helped organise the event and supported it on the day.
The L2SOTM is a race of about 3 miles (5km) held on the second Sunday of every month. The next race is on Sunday 14 September starting at 10am at the Cricket Ground. Runners of all standards are welcome. The handicap system means that the slowest have as much chance of winning the cups as the fastest. Hope you can come. There will be refreshments afterwards and supporters of all ages are very welcome. More details are available on the L2SOTM pages.
Thank you to everyone who completed a questionnaire. You can see the results in the affordable housing pages.
You are probably aware of the proposal to build a Tesco warehouse (commonly known as a megashed) on the site of the old Andover Airfield. The plan is for a shed nearly 700yds long by 150yds wide and 56 feet high with 300 HGV bays. Your Parish Council’s objection to the proposal is one among over 2,000. Our concerns were mainly about the extra traffic on the A303 caused by 1,600 delivery lorry movements every day. Nearly half are expected to go though Longparish along the A303. Imagine the chaos if the A303 is blocked and we get the sort of rat running which led to articulated car transporters trying to negotiate our village road on 16 January. Other councils more directly affected have taken the lead in objecting and are part of a group called STOP. You may have seen their posters and you can read all about the plans and why they object on their website. TVBC will consider the matter at a public meeting at 5.30 on Monday 1 September at The Lights in Andover.
You see background information here.
Our new Longparish walks leaflet was distributed to every household in Longparish and Hurstbourne Priors. They are in great demand from visitors and locals alike and are available from the pubs, the church and the shop.

Kidz Zone meets fortnightly on a Wednesday. It is open to people aged 11 to 18.More information here
You can see some maps of the area at different scales by following the link 'How to find Longparish' in the menu. If you are still puzzled, "Southern England" (the first map) is the bottom quarter of that little island to the top left of Europe.
You can find out about Longparish in the Village Handbook's History and Environment sections.
We will gradually be adding photos to this part of the site. If anybody has any (new or old) that they could let us have, we'd be pleased to see them. Obviously digital is the easiest, but we can scan in prints as well.
This section explains the responsibilities of the Parish Council and gives you contact details for members, as well as dates, agendas and minutes of council meetings. You can also access items of general village interest such as the Design Statement and the Community Project, in this section.
In this part of the site you should be able to find a substantial amount of information on such things as local government, and how it impacts on Longparish, as well as details about the church, schooling, shops and pubs, and many organisations that operate in or around the village.
The Village Handbook gives some of the history of the village, its landmarks, families & traditions. It also suggests sites of interest and wildlife you should look out for as you wander around the village.
Hill and Valley is our local community magazine. We have copies of the Longparish pages.
