Race Report

Although it was sunny, there was a distinct nip in the air and a headwind along Nun’s Walk. The runners soon warmed up, but the marshals had to put up with a rather cool breeze.

Richard finishing in record time

We were pleased to welcome 3 new runners to the April 2010 Longparish 2nd Sunday Of The Month handicap race: Nicolette Walsh, Robin Bruce and Richard Hoad. Special mention also to Ben and Simeon Evans, who were running as Accompanied Minors*, a non-competing role.

The new and junior runners all, as usually happens, underestimated their times and arrived back early. As they were running off estimates, they don't qualify this month for the Most Improved Runner trophies, but congratulations to Richard, whose time of 18:35 is a New Course Record.

Jack awarding Jacqui and Rob the Most Improved Runners cups

Congratulations to our two Most Improved Runners: Jacqui, who retained outright the ladies’ cup she shared last month; and Rob, regaining the cup for the first time since March last year.

Thanks to Graham and Wendy for starting and timekeeping; to Maggie for the yummy flapjack and post-race tea and coffee; to Jack, the Chief Marshal, for collecting the finish list and presenting the trophies to the Most Improved Runners; to the Goulds for putting the signs out; to the Cricket Club for the wonderful venue; and last, but by no means least, to Jeremy, Chief Organiser, without whom none of it would have happened at all.

* We haven’t quite worked out what this means, yet, but it’s something to do with runners under 16.
