On 7 August the Parish Council received borrowing approval from the Secretary of State.

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government confirmed that the purchase of The Plough is approved as a purpose for which Longparish Parish Council may borrow up to £300,000. The Council and Longparish Community Pub Ltd can now proceed with making an offer to purchase the pub for the benefit of the community.

The decision means that both Hampshire Association of Local Councils and MHCLG consider this an appropriate and acceptable loan for the Council, and that the associated public consultation was properly conducted.

The Council is delighted to be able to facilitate this community project and hopes that the vendor will look favourably on the community offer to buy the pub. No application to draw down this loan (or any part of it) will be made until negotiations are complete and an offer is accepted.
