Longparish Parish Council
Terms of Reference of the Footpaths Committee
These terms of reference were agreed at the footpaths committee meeting on 24 July 2008.
- The committee reports to the Parish Council.
- Members are appointed annually at the May meeting of the parish council but will be assumed to be willing to continue from year to year unless they advise otherwise.
- The committee aims to assist the Council by helping to ensure that
- our 20 plus miles of paths are well maintained and, so far as possible, improved; and
- that parishioners and other users are aware of them and of their rights and responsibilities when they use them
- Legal responsibility for the state of Rights of Way lies elsewhere but the Parish Council is conscious that resources are limited. In pursuit of these aims the committee will:
- promote use of our footpaths;
- facilitate work on footpaths by volunteers;
- liaise with landowners, the County Council and other interested parties;
- lobby when work by other parties is required;
- report regularly to the Council
- recommend annually to the Council a budget relating to its Footpaths activities
- As well as councillors, the committee may include other people, as are necessary to meet these terms of reference.
- The committee will meet as necessary. The normal pattern of meetings is
- The annual village inspection in June
- a meeting in the Spring to consider a work programme.
- other meetings as necessary
- The committee will review these terms of reference annually.
