In May 2003 there was a disaster in Forton when Meadow Cottage was destroyed by fire. Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service (HFRS) were unable to save the house and the fire was a stark reminder to the many owners of thatched houses in Longparish, "There but for the grace of God …" We have pulled together some useful information here
