Sixth Great Longparish Pumpkin Contest
The 2002 results and Pix
The contest was well supported with entries ranging in size from 1/2oz to an incredible 244lbs. Thank you to the Evans family who provided hot dogs and drinks, Liz Bourne who was the judge and everyone who gave raffle prizes.
There was hot competition in the under 8 class with entries from Matthieu and Guillemette Rident, Florence Proctor, Matilda Streatfield, James and Charlotte Hulme and Emma, Ben and Katie Evans. Top prize went to Emma Evans with a 40lb whopper.
In the 8 to 11s Edward Hills had two entries(1/2oz and 2oz) but Perrine Rident took the honours with an entry weighing over 4oz.
In the over 16s the winner was a 244lb monster from Alan Hewlett which was so big it was difficult to read the scales.
The prettiest pumpkins were grown by Ben Evans and Mary Jo Darrah and the most unusual by Ed Hills and Guillemette Rident. It was great fun and the raffle raised £64 for the Playgroup. Seedlings will be on sale at the May Fayre so please grow one next year.
